How to prepare for and perform a basic fitness assessment?

A few weeks ago, we’ve talked about what is a fitness assessment and why it’s important, and today, we’re going to give you a few tips on how to prepare for and perform a basic one. ⠀

1. Gather everything you may need for the assessment - forms, equipment, a track, or the space needed to perform the assessment.⠀

2. Make sure your client has completed a PAR-Q (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire), informed consent, and any other health screening procedures that must be done before exercise.⠀

3. If you’re not going to do a general one, you should know the type of assessment you want to perform depends on your client’s fitness goals or age.⠀

4. Make sure you have personal information such as date of birth and sex that you may need to use for comparison of the client’s results to normative data or age-adjusted charts.⠀

5. Ask what the client’s health, fitness, and weight management goals are.⠀

6. Give detailed instructions, explain what the assessment is testing and how you will use the assessment information to benefit them and their progress.⠀

7. Gather the assessment data and compare the results to normative data or age-adjusted charts.⠀

8. Share the results with your client and explain what they mean.⠀
